History & Origins

The Argonians, known in their own tongue as Saxhleel ('People of the Root'), are the reptilian inhabitants of Black Marsh (Argonia), the most inhospitable province of Tamriel. They are among the oldest races on the continent, with a civilization predating even the Elves.

Unlike other races, Argonians have a unique symbiotic relationship with the Hist — ancient sentient trees that are believed to predate even the creation of Nirn itself. This bond gives Argonians their intelligence and shapes their very identity.
